Achen-Gardner Construction is led by Dennis Troggio (Chief Executive Officer), John Walstrom (President/General Manager of Operations), Dan Spitza, PE (Vice President/Manager of Business Development, Project Managers, and Design Services), and Kevin Nunez (Vice President/Chief Estimator). Together we have shaped Achen-Gardner into the industry leader it is today.

Company History:

Achen-Gardner Construction, LLC started as an Engineering Division of Achen-Gardner, Inc. in 1989. In 1999, it became its own independent company as Achen-Gardner Engineering, LLC. In 2009, we changed the name to Achen-Gardner Construction, which is how we are known today.

In the beginning, the long-term goal was to self perform as much work as possible. This goal was accelerated by the state law that required horizontal contractors to self perform at least 50% of our work. Since then, Achen-Gardner has become a contractor known for self performance, controlling our destiny, and completing projects on time and under budget. We are a leader in Construction Manager at Risk, Design-Build, and Job Order Contracting projects.

Safety Culture:

Working in public right-of-way and in and around live traffic every day requires planning and a diligent approach to safety. In the past five years, Achen-Gardner has installed more than 900,000 lineal feet of wet utilities and more than 1 million square yards of pavement within the public right-of-way and active traffic environments. Maintaining a safe construction project is our top priority.

Cesar Martinez, Achen-Gardner’s Safety Director, works closely with project superintendents and field crews to provide continuing education on proper procedures required for performing work safely. He also creates project-specific safety plans to accommodate any unique risks. Cesar visits projects regularly and enforces a “zero tolerance” policy, which has resulted in more than 800,000 man hours worked (2013-2015) without a lost time accident.
