The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches is the new Spring Training Center for Major League Baseball teams, the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros. The stadium seats 6,500 and the park consists of 15 natural grass fields and 4 synthetic agility areas.
The complex marks the return of spring training baseball to West Palm Beach for the first time in 20 years.
The construction of the ballpark was estimated to take 2 years, and in the middle of construction hurricane Matthew grazed the coast and set the construction schedule back a month. Regardless of setbacks the ballpark needed to be ready for play for the first pitch of spring training – AECOM Hunt and SCG Fields completed the stadium in a record 15 months.
