Company Overview
Dixie Construction Company is a family-owned and operated site development, earth moving, underground utilities, and road building contractor with two facilities in Maryland and one in Delaware. Initially operated as a small paving business in 1968, we have grown and evolved into one of the premier site preparation construction companies in the Mid-Atlantic area.
We use the latest construction technologies – from laser-grade GPS equipment to GPS site surveying – to provide all phases of site development services that are required by modern residential, commercial, industrial, and municipal users.
Company History
Dixie Construction started out as a small paving company in Harford County, Maryland, almost 50 years ago. The company got its name from founding member, Henry Dixon, who was given the nickname “Dixie” during his time in the Army, which stuck with him throughout his life.
Today, we have more than 300 employees and own more than 500 construction assets.

Safety Overview
Dixie Construction takes extreme pride in providing employees with the latest advancements in safety supervision, oversight, and training. Since our formation almost 50 years ago, safety has been of paramount importance. We have taken great strides to provide employees with the training and equipment necessary to carefully fulfill their tasks in today’s ever-increasingly hazardous environment.
We have embraced numerous safety tools to ensure that we have stayed in the forefront of safety for our employees and clients. An example of this can be found in our adoption of new safety software that allows us to monitor safety on all of our jobs and on all of our crews in real time.
Our foremen now are outfitted with the latest technology by utilizing Apple iPads. From these tablets, each crew can monitor and measure their daily work progress, as well as have the ability to perform safety inspections, toolbox talks, daily safety diary entries, near miss reports, equipment inspections, JHAs, AHAs, TSAs, hazard assessments, and have access to all of their crew members’ training certifications and records. Each of these functions can be emailed or printed directly to our cloud-based servers for recordkeeping and to our clients to fulfill their daily recordkeeping requirements.
All of these functions also will help to fulfill those requirements tasked to us by agencies such as Federal OSHA, MOSH, US Army Corps of Engineers, MSHA, and the many energy companies we are prequalified to work for throughout ISNetworld and the NRG.
Equipment & Technology
Dixie carefully evaluates and employs the latest construction equipment and technologies available in order to complete every aspect and design detail, and to help identify opportunities to add value and cost savings to every project. This process starts in the estimating and project planning phases and carries through to the equipment and technology utilized to complete our projects.
Our highly experienced staff has implemented the most current computer software and technologies to ensure that our customers are provided with an accurate estimation of their projects. Computer-generated 3D models are created from the civil engineering site plans by our estimating department. These 3D models are not only used for accurately predicting materials estimates, but they also are the same 3D models that are used to guide our GPS machines in the field. We use these 3D models in the field for the finished product that is used during the material estimates to make sure that we meet our clients’ expectations. This advanced technology ensures an accurate finished product and accelerates production levels that translate to an overall cost savings for our clients.
Our project management team, field supervisors, and work crews also used advanced software to report project progress from the site daily. This significantly increases the flow of information to allow us to track and monitor projects every day in order to keep projects on time and completed for our clients within schedule.
In addition, Dixie has a late-model equipment fleet of more than 500 units. This fleet of company-owned equipment allows us to take on both small- and large-scale construction projects.
